ITS SUMMER SESSION!

Went to my first Howard summer party last night and I had fun :D It was chill, the perfect amount of people were there and there were no fights and it didn’t get shut down… I just left it early because I had a paper to finish. Party hard but STUDY HARDER!

Anonymous asked: “My hair is hard to tame and maintain so I was thinking of getting it braided in august before I come. Like single braids (extension type) are there many people at Howard who rock braids or should I just rock my hair? Don't wana go and look akward....”

Rock you! Howard has so many different styles here, wear it how you usually wear it. There are people here with short hair, weaves, braids, afros, twists, dreads… There is not any single Howard look. So do wear your hair how you feel comfortable and whatever is considered manageable and easier FOR YOU! People will get used to it once they recognize that its you.

Anonymous asked: “I'm a transfer student this fall. How long does it take to know how many of your credits are transferred?”

It will show on your bisonweb. My advice would be to call and ask them how long it takes but check your bisonweb to see if its done. For me, my credits transferred within a week. Then again it depends on the the institution from where your credits come from because Howard doesn’t take credits from every school, they have a certain criteria that they follow.

lovepinkpearlss asked: “Im a junior in high school and im doing the howard school of business summer enrichment program plus extra curicular activities ? Is that a better chance of me getting accepted into howard even if i have a 2.77 gpa”

Howard’s acceptance is not actually down to a science. I know people with 3.0’s that applied and got waitlisted at first. However, I would say to work on your strong points. Do the summer business program, continue your extra curriculars BUT be sure to try and raise your GPA as much as you can because Howard seems to get more selective each year.

Anonymous asked: “Hey i'm coming to Howard in the fall and I've heard things about the whole light skin vs dark skinned female thing.. Is that a huge issue at Howard. Im darker toned so idk if people will accept me.... I know it sounds dumb, but I had to ask.”

That is not an issue at all at Howard. Howard is full of people of all kinds of skin tones, no one cares what skin tone you are and they shouldn’t judge you off of it. Everyone talks to everyone, we don’t discriminate based off of color. I haven’t met anyone here who does. Some people have their preferences in terms of dating and relationships but in terms of friendships and meeting people, don’t let it worry you. Its not an issue =)

Hope this helps and see you in the fall!

Anonymous asked: “Heyy! I am currently looking into transferring into Howard as a sophmore. I am a freshman now in college. Is it an easy transition as a transfer student at Howard?”

Hey! Well technically I didn’t transfer to Howard, I just came a semester later than I was supposed to because I never went to another school. BUT I guess I can answer from a transfer student’s perspective. Well academically, if you’re transferring from a school that’s at about the same standard as Howard credit wise then it shouldn’t be too hard for your credits to transfer and you should be on track so that’s good!

Socially, being yourself gets you far. For the most part, people here are really nice. For the first couple of weeks, I felt out of place since I didn’t know many people but eventually I found my group of friends that welcomed me with open arms and ever since I’ve been happy here! There are times where you’ll feel stressed work wise (well that depends on your major) or even financially but it helps to talk to people before you give up. Easy is too strong of a word but I think fair is a more suitable word. You, as a person that determines how easy or smooth your transition will be…hope that helped :)
